Prenatal Massage in Naples: Is It Safe, When to Book, and What Happens

Prenatal massage is one of the most searched-for treatments in Naples and one of the least clearly explained. Most of what people want to know comes down to three questions: is it safe, when should I book, and what actually happens in the room. Here is how we handle it, and where we will ask you to talk to your physician first.

Start with your physician

We are a day spa, not a medical practice, and we will not tell you whether massage is appropriate for your pregnancy. That is a conversation for your obstetrician or midwife, who knows your history. What we will say plainly is that we ask every expectant guest to have had it, and that it takes two minutes at an appointment you already have booked.

Bring us their go-ahead and tell your therapist how far along you are when you arrive. If anything has changed since you booked, say so — it is never an inconvenience and it is always better said.

When in pregnancy people usually book

Most of our expectant guests come in during the second and third trimesters, which is when the lower-back ache that prompts the search tends to arrive. Many spas, ours included, prefer to wait until after the first trimester. If you are in the first and want to come in, speak to your physician and then to us before booking.

What happens in the room

The main practical difference is how you lie. You will not be face down on your stomach. You are positioned on your side with cushions and bolsters supporting your back, your belly, your top leg and wherever else you need them — therapists spend the first few minutes getting that arrangement right, and it is worth saying if anything feels off balance.

From there it is a full-body massage at a lighter, slower pressure than you might book otherwise, with time spent on the lower back, hips and legs. You are draped throughout and only the area being worked on is uncovered. Your therapist checks in during the session rather than waiting for you to speak up.

Our Maternity Massage runs sixty minutes at $128 or ninety at $178. Sixty is plenty for a first visit.

Things worth telling your therapist

  • How many weeks you are.
  • Anything your physician has raised, however minor it sounds.
  • Where it aches, and where you would rather not be touched at all.
  • If you get lightheaded changing position, or are uncomfortable lying on a particular side.
  • Any scent sensitivity. Pregnancy changes what smells pleasant, and we can leave the aromatherapy out entirely.

What we will not do

We will not make claims about what massage does for a pregnancy, for labour, or for anything medical. Plenty of places will. What a prenatal massage reliably offers is an hour of being comfortable, which when you are seven months along is not a small thing.

Common questions

Will I have to lie on my stomach?

No. You are positioned on your side with cushions supporting you. If a position stops being comfortable partway through, say so and your therapist will rearrange it.

Can I book it in the first trimester?

Speak to your physician first, then call us rather than booking online, so we can make sure the right therapist and the right expectations are in place.

Is it different from a regular massage?

Yes — the positioning, the pressure and the areas worked are all adapted. It is not a Swedish massage with extra pillows.

Can my partner book at the same time?

Not in the same room as a couples treatment, since the setup is different, but we can usually schedule your appointments to run alongside each other. Ask when you book.

Ocean Breeze Spa is on Tamiami Trail East in Naples, open daily. If you are not sure prenatal is the right booking yet, the full massage menu is here, and we are happy to talk it through on the phone.
