After-Beach Skin: The Best Facial for Sun-Exposed Skin in Naples
Sun, salt and air conditioning are a rough combination. Which facial to book after a week outdoors, and when to wait.
Naples
Search for a spa in Naples and the results fill up with resorts. That is a reflection of marketing budgets rather than of what suits you, and the two kinds of spa are genuinely different propositions. Here is the honest comparison, including where a resort is the better answer.
At a resort spa, the treatment is part of a larger product: the grounds, the pool, the locker rooms, the relaxation lounge, often a day pass or a room rate on top. Some of that is wonderful. All of it is in the price.
At a day spa, you are paying for the hour on the table and the people in the building. Our sixty-minute Swedish massage is $118 with no access fee, no minimum spend and no resort charge attached to it. You arrive, you are treated, you leave.
This is the difference most Naples residents run into. Resort spas vary in how open they are to people who are not staying there — some welcome outside guests, some restrict them in season, some require a day pass that costs more than the treatment. In January through March, when Naples is full, that gets tighter.
A day spa has one category of guest. If there is an appointment free, you can have it, whether you live three streets away or flew in last night.
A resort spa is usually a half day by the time you have parked, found it, used what you are paying for and come back. That is the point of it, and on the right day it is money well spent.
A day spa fits in a gap. An hour between a morning tee time and a dinner reservation, or the slot you have on a Tuesday because something was cancelled. If you want the longer version we have it — Rejuvenate & Radiate runs over three hours at $428 — but the default here is that you are in and out.
This matters more than people expect. A resort spa serves a largely rotating clientele, which is why the massage is often excellent and the relationship is not. A day spa lives on regulars. Once a therapist knows your shoulder, your preferred pressure and the fact that you do not want to talk, every subsequent visit is better than the first. You can request the same person when you book.
Genuinely, there are times:
One thing should not differ and sometimes does: the licence. Every massage and skincare treatment at Ocean Breeze is performed by a Florida-licensed therapist or esthetician. That is worth checking wherever you book, resort or otherwise, and any reputable spa will answer the question without hesitating.
Usually, and the gap is widest once access fees and day passes are counted. Compare the total you will pay to walk out, not the headline treatment price.
Yes, and plenty of visitors do, particularly those staying somewhere without a spa of its own. You book the same way a resident would.
Out of season a few days is usually enough. January through March, give it a week for weekends, and longer for a couples room.
No. A sixty-minute massage is sixty minutes in both. What is shorter is everything around it.
